Southport RUFC Hosted the Plate and Vase Finals on a bright and breezy day with Lancashire President Tim Stirk in attendance to enjoy the Rugby and hand out the trophies.
The day was very well organised by the hosts and the Rugby lived up to the expectations of a finals day. The U13s plate final finished Bolton 10-10 Wigan , with the trophy being shared between 2 very worthy" winners". The U13s Vase was another close affair with Southport just edging it 13-10 v West Park.
...The U14s Plate finished Orrell 26-24 Preston Grasshoppers and the U14s Vase was taken by Ormskirk in a 26-5 win v Liverpool Collegiate.
The U15s Plate was another thriller Heaton Moor 25-26 Waterloo, with the 15s Vase finishing Sefton 27-7 Bury.
The final 2 games of the day the U16s plate was the sixth game of the day to finish within one score as West Park 16-15 Widnes was the final score and U16s Vase was also close and saw Bolton keep the Vase beating Fleetwood 13-5.
Gareth Hughes has kindly offered to Sponsor the U16s Man of the Match awards in memory of his late father Vinny Hughes the long standing stalwart of Newton le Willows RUFC, and the awards went to Allen Breeden of Widnes Rufc in the Plate Final and Ben Turner from Bolton Rufc in the Vase Final, in a fitting way to round off what must be the most closely contested Finals day in many a long year.
