Sad news has been received to say that Life Member and former President of Eccles RFC, Ernie Crookell, has passed away in hospital. He was 88.
Ernie had been a member of Eccles RFC since the early 1950's and gave over 60 years service in various roles. He was made a Life member of Eccles in 1984 and was one of the first people to have that honour bestowed upon him. He served as President of Eccles for a record 16 years and only stepped down in 2015. During that time he hardly missed a game, hosting the men's opposition on a Saturday and supporting the ladies and colts on a Sunday.
Ernie was well known and loved across both the rugby and local communities.
The funeral will take place on Wednesday 7th September at 10.20am at Agecroft Cemetery.
Afterwards there will be a celebration of his life at the club where we hope many people will come to share many happy memories.
